This award supported a year-long research project that examined how New York City elementary school teachers locate economic inequality in their work and how they respond to incidents of class conflict and division in and through their pedagogical and curricular practice. Within the context of neoliberal reforms and racial capitalism, it draws from a critique of current standards in elementary schools that forefront neoclassical ideals of free market capitalism and shares how teachers use their own curriculum-building knowledge to move their students from rational decision-making to more critical and care-driven engagements with systems and structures of inequality.
