Childhood Education

Grades 1-6

Effective childhood education — education that empowers and elevates students of all backgrounds and abilities — depends on student-centered methods, individualized approaches, cultural responsiveness, and specialized pedagogies based on research, theory, and practice. Hunter’s robust range of Childhood Education programs prepares students to work with all learners and provides current teachers the opportunity to advance their careers through specialization. Students practice in schools throughout their studies, where they’ll gain a wealth of clinical and field experience while learning from expert faculty who care.

Earn your Childhood Education certification to work in elementary schools teaching all subjects. Consider a Bilingual Education teacher certification if you’re fluent in Spanish, French, or Chinese language so you can support students in high-need classrooms across the state.

If you already hold NYS Childhood Education Grades 1-6 certification, you can earn a master’s degree in various subject areas, including Elementary Math Specialist or Childhood Specialist in STEM. Math and STEM specialists can design and implement specialized curricula in their classrooms and help prepare the next generation of innovators.

*Programs require Initial NYS Certification.
