Special Education (All Grades) Advanced Certificate
Program Overview
This advanced certificate program will prepare you to be an effective teacher of students with disabilities across all grades from PreK to grade 12 in NYS public schools.
Program Format
Courses are offered in the afternoon and evening. Students elect to complete the program either fully online or in an in-person/hybrid format.
- In-Person/Hybrid: Most courses are offered in person at Hunter College.
- Fully Online Cohort: Courses are online in an asynchronous format with video supervision.

Students with Disabilities All Grades (PreK-12)
Eligibility and Admission Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of at least 3.0 or a master’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.5
- NYS certification in:
- Early Childhood Education
- Childhood Education
- Middle Education
- Adolescent Education
- Teaching a Special Subject
- TESOL
- Literacy
- Teaching a Specific Career or Technical Subject
- Library Media Specialist
- Educational Technology Specialist
- A liberal arts or sciences major or interdisciplinary concentration of at least 30 credits
- A minimum of 24 liberal arts and sciences credits as follows: 6 credits in English, 6 credits in historical and social sciences, 6 credits in science, and 6 credits in math
- A statement of purpose – please indicate your interest in the all-online or on-campus/hybrid format.
- Two letters of recommendation
