Teacher Opportunity Corps II (TOC II)

 

The Teacher Opportunity Corps II (TOC II) is a New York State Education Department–funded program designed to support and increase the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged individuals entering the teaching profession.

As a Teacher Opportunity Corps II (TOC II) scholar, you will join a supportive community of future educators in a 10-month paid internship where you will build a strong foundation in culturally responsive teaching while gaining hands-on experience, professional mentorship, and insight into the broader education landscape.

What You’ll Experience

Teacher Opportunity Corps II (TOC II) Scholars receive tuition support, a stipend, and mentorship.

Professional Learning

  • In-person convenings and virtual workshops
  • Topics include culturally responsive teaching practices, student engagement, social-emotional learning, and career preparation

Fieldwork Experiences

  • In-person and virtual placements
  • Opportunities to observe, identify, and strengthen culturally responsive instructional practices in real educational settings

Community Engagement

  • Curated experiences with education-focused nonprofit organizations
  • Exposure to organizations supporting students and families across NYC public schools

Eligibility and Participation Requirements

  • Be currently enrolled in education coursework in a degree-seeking program.
  • Remain a full-time Hunter College student in good academic standing
  • File a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  • Participate in fieldwork observations at a New York City public school
  • Attend both virtual and in-person professional development sessions, including sessions scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2026 and Saturday, March 14, 2026
  • Consent to the release of select personal information (gender and ethnicity) and financial information (tuition amount paid) to the New York State (NYS) Education Department, as required for grant reporting purposes.
