This program will provide certified elementary school teachers a substantial background in mathematics, pedagogy and leadership giving them the knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective professional development facilitator, coach, cluster teacher, and mentor.

  • EMTSP-MSED (for students certified in Childhood Education)
  • EMSNC-MSED (for students not certified in Childhood Education)

Program Sequences

Clinical Experiences

Students in the Elementary Mathematics Specialist Program (MSEd) program do not participate in developmental field experiences (fieldwork) or supervised teaching (student teaching and/or practicum).

Graduation

Graduation is the official completion of your program and conferral of an academic degree. In order to graduate, students must apply for graduation using CUNYFirst the semester before the semester of their planned graduation and complete any outstanding requirements by the stated deadlines. Certification and Licensure

For those with Initial New York State Certification in Childhood Education, this program will fulfill the master’s degree requirement for Professional Certification. Once teachers have completed three years of full-time, paid teaching experience including one year of mentored teaching, they can apply for professional certification.

For educators who are not certified in New York State, or do not wish to obtain certification, but seek a specialized Master’s degree in Elementary Mathematics Education: This program does not lead to certification or licensure.

Types of Certification

Students who already hold Childhood Education certification are recommended for professional certification:

  • The Professional Certificate is an advanced certificate. Once teachers have completed three years of full-time, paid teaching experience including one year of mentored teaching, they can apply for professional certification.
