The School of Education Launches New Graduate Programs

The School of Education at Hunter College is excited to announce the launch of new graduate programs in Literacy Education, Assessment and Learning, Special Education, and School Counseling with a Bilingual Concentration. Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2025 semester.

These new graduate programs are designed to empower educators with the skills and knowledge needed to amplify their impact in classrooms and communities, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to meet the evolving needs of the profession.

The Literacy Education master’s degree program focuses on self-reflection, awareness, transformation, and advocacy. Educators will earn New York State Literacy certification from PreK-12 and provide equitable access to curriculum, instruction, and assessments aligned with their students’ communities and identities.

The Learning and Assessment advanced certificate program is designed to support teachers in increasing their knowledge and training in assessment and student learning. Those who seek to know more about quality assessment in classrooms and beyond, and how that relates to student cognition and motivation will find this program aligned with their interests.

The School Counseling with Bilingual Concentration master’s degree program empowers counselors to address the unique needs of bilingual populations, fostering academic, emotional, and social success in students. Candidates fluent in Spanish can earn their School Counseling New York State certification, and a Bilingual Extension to offer their services in dual languages.

The Special Education (PreK-12) master’s degree and advanced certificate programs offer comprehensive knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to meet the diverse needs of learners in today’s classrooms. Graduates earn New York State certification in Special Education from PreK-12.

Whether you’re seeking to specialize in bilingual school counseling, refine your approach to literacy instruction or assessment, or learn new special education teaching strategies, Hunter’s graduate programs will help you thrive in your career.
