Gray Fellow Recognized as a Hero of Brooklyn by Brooklyn Nets
This week’s edition of the Brooklyn Nets #HeroesOfBrooklyn features Gray Fellow Njoku Uchechukwu, principal of John Jay School for Law in Park Slope, which serves more than 440 students in grades 9-12 from across New York City. When schools closed because of COVID-19, in just three days, Principal Njoku led his team in shifting their classrooms to go completely online, and enacted a plan for the teachers to support their students through remote learning. Under his guidance, administrators and educators have implemented ways to ensure the well-being of their students and their families, such as offering extended virtual office hours and hosting weekly check-ins. Additionally, every other week, Principal Njoku hosts virtual school assemblies as a way for students to connect with each other and provide them with a sense of normalcy and community. He has also used this time to launch “The Sneaker Principal Podcast,” where he discusses topics currently impacting both students and educators in New York City, through interviews with school and community leaders, as well as others who are working hard to support education during the COVID-19 pandemic.
