Professional Certification (Advanced Preparation) in Special Education – Early Childhood Special Education (MSEd) – Course Sequence for Students with Prior Early Childhood Special Education Certification

These are recommended sequences of courses for students with prior Early Childhood Special Education Certification. There are two options. In Option A, students take SPEDE 77051 and SPED 79251. In Option B, students take SPED 72350, 72450, and 78151.

Course Sequence Option A

Semester 1

Courses

  • SPEDE 77251 – Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and its Application to Young Children with Special Needs (3 credits)
  • SPEDE 77051 – Individualized Planning, Implementation and Progress Monitoring in Early Childhood (Birth through PreK) Environments and Curricula (3 credits)

Semester 2

Courses

  • Take 3 credits of electives (See list below)
  • SPED 79251 – Language Development and Alternative Communication Systems for Learners with Low Incidence Disabilities: Severe Disabilities including Deafblindness (3 credits)

Semester 3

Courses

  • SPEDE 77151 – Autism Spectrum Disorder: Characteristics and Implications for Intervention (3 credits)

Semester 4
