Program Sequence for Fall 23 Admits and Beyond – Childhood Education (MSEd) – Track 1

 

This is a recommended 2-year program sequence. Students must consult with their faculty advisor to determine their individualized course of study before registering for classes.

Students will complete a teacher preparation assessment (TPA) as a requirement for program completion.

Applications are reviewed by the Office of Clinical Experiences (OCE ) and students will be given permission to register for CEDC 701, EDUC 715, and CEDC 708 as a block.   • Students must take and pass Content Specialty Test (CST) – Multi-Subject Teachers of Childhood before applying for Student Teaching.
  • Students must take and pass the Educating All Students (EAS) exam before applying for Student Teaching.
  • Students must apply for CEDC 72400 or CEDC 72750. Apply via the CEDC 72400 Application or the CEDC 72750 Application. Applications are reviewed by the Office of Clinical Experiences (OCE) and students will be notified via their myhunter.cuny.edu email address close to the time of registration. Application deadlines are April 1st for the Fall semester and November 1st for the Spring semester.
  • Students must apply for graduation the semester before their planned graduation. Refer to the Graduation page for full policies and procedures.

Semester 4 – Student Teaching/Supervised Teaching

  • CEDC 72400 – Student Teaching in Grades 1-2 and 4-6 (KC) (4 credits)

OR

  • CEDC 72750 – Supervised Teaching in Grades 1-6 (KC) (4 credits)
    • New York State Education Department (NYSED) requires all students to complete a minimum of 50 hours of clinical experience in each of two different grade bands (1st through 3rd and 4th through 6th grades). Students employed in one grade band and using their worksite for fieldwork will be expected to meet this requirement by organizing time in a different classroom, after-school or tutoring program, etc. A record of grade-band fulfillment is submitted with the application for supervised teaching before the final semester of the program. Students who are being placed by Office of Clinical Experiences (OCE) will have both grade band requirements by the time of graduation.

Academic and Professional Milestones

  • Students must wait to apply for certification until they receive an email from the School of Education indicating their recommendation has been entered. This usually occurs six to eight weeks after the conferral of your degree. Refer to the Certification and Licensure page for more information.
