Program Sequence for Fall 24 Admits – Adolescent Spanish (MA)

 

This is a recommended full-time, 2-Year Course Sequence for Fall 24 admits. Students should consult with their faculty advisor(s) to create an individualized course sequence for part-time study or if the candidate has admission requirements in the content area.

  • Spanish Literature course offerings change from semester to semester. Students should register for courses that meet the following requirements:
    • 3 credits in Structures of Modern Spanish
    • 3 credits in Spanish Peninsular Literature
    • 6 credits in Latin American Literature
    • 3 credits in either Spanish or Latin American Literature.
  • Obtain registration permission from the Romance Languages department.

Academic and Professional Milestones

  • Students must submit a professional teaching portfolio, which is a cumulative effort, integrating course and fieldwork throughout the program.
  • Students must take and pass Spanish Comprehensive Exam based on a short reading list prepared and administered by the Romance Languages department.
  • Students must wait to apply for certification until they receive an email from the School of Education indicating their recommendation has been entered. This usually occurs six to eight weeks after the conferral of your degree. Refer to the Certification and Licensure page for more information.

  • Any admission conditions in the content area (Spanish) will be determined jointly by the School of Education coordinator of the adolescent foreign language program and the Spanish advisor of graduate studies in the department of romance languages at the time of application. The evaluation of fulfilling admission requirements of Spanish studies will be determined jointly by the aforementioned parties.
