Background

Katie is an aspiring school leader and 9th grade algebra teacher at Curtis High School in Staten Island, New York. She has been teaching mathematics for thirteen years and has served in a teacher leadership role as the IB Diploma Program coordinator for eight years. Kathleen is currently pursuing her EdD at Hunter College in Instructional Leadership. Her research interests include examining whiteness ideology in mathematics education, critical reflective practices of teachers, and transformative social and emotional learning. She has been a Math for America Master teacher for eleven years, leading numerous professional development workshops, supporting teachers to develop their self-awareness, resilience, and strengthen connections with colleagues using mindfulness, reflective practices, and vulnerable dialogues.
