Background

Andrea Gordon-Smith (she/her/hers) has 20 years of teaching experience in the New York City Department of Education. She is a 5th year AP Capstone teacher of AP Seminar and AP Research at Medgar Evers College Preparatory School. She plays a pivotal role in helping students transition from secondary research to independent research and collaborates with Kings County Hospital to provide students with research exposure to health careers. She has taken on various leadership roles throughout the years, such as NYC Peer Collaborative Teacher, NYC Mentor Teacher, Teacher Mentor, Community Outreach Coordinator, and National Honor Society Adviser. Andrea is pursuing a doctorate in Instructional Leadership at Hunter College, focusing her research on using Socratic Seminars to Fuel Youth Participatory Action Research.
