Background

Doctor Cote is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has worked at various sites in New York City, concentrating in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. He has taught at various campuses throughout CUNY in both undergraduate and graduate courses, spanning from counseling to psychology, to neurobiology. His research interests are rooted in how stress in early life affects neurodevelopment, and how in turn, developmental stress impacts various mental health issues.

Teaching

Dr. Cote began teaching at CUNY in 2007, and has taught in multiple areas and departments throughout his career. When teaching counseling courses his focus is to give students both a breadth and depth of knowledge in counseling and psychology, and to introduce the research foundations of evidence-based practice.

Research

Dr. Cote’s research is rooted in the impacts of early life stress on neurodevelopment. His current work is demonstrating how these stressors alter the function of multiple neural systems that underlie threat appraisal, reward and addiction, and negative affect.
