April completed her Ph.D. in Behavior Analysis at Western New England University in 2013 under the advisement of Dr. Amanda Karsten and her M.A. in Behavior Analysis at Western Michigan University in 2009 under the advisement of Dr. James Carr. April has worked in the field of behavior analysis over 15 years. She has published and presented her work in several peer-reviewed journals and at local, national, and international conferences. April is currently Chair of the Verbal Behavior Special Interest Group, the Awards Chair for Division 25 of APA, on the editorial board for The Analysis of Verbal Behavior, and has served as a guest reviewer for several journals including the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychological Record, and Education and Treatment of Children.

April’s principal research interests include strategies for teaching language to individuals with ASD and related disorders, the development of language in neurotypically developing children, acquisition of problem solving strategies (e.g., visual imagining, self-talk) by individuals with ASD and related disorders, parent and staff training, and addressing social needs of adolescents, young adults, and adults with ASD.
