Background

​​Lenny Santamaria serves as Principal of Myra S. Barnes Intermediate School 24 in District 31 for the past fourteen years. Through a strong home-school partnership with families, in a school serving 1,300 students, his school maintains a focus on High School preparedness and providing the social, emotional and academic and interpersonal skills to be ready for ninth grade and beyond.

Several distinctions have been presented to Lenny which include The Distinguished School Administrator Award by the American Association of School Librarians for his work in promoting the school Library in all aspects of the school program, along with the NYC Middle School Principal’s Association Distinguished Principal Award and recognition by the Community Based Organization, U.A.U., with the Louis DeSario Educator of the Year Award.

Lenny was born and raised in Brooklyn and was a proud NYC School student from K-12 having attended P.S. 179, I.S. 223 and F.D.R. High School in Brooklyn. He later went on to receive his B.S. in Criminology while attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice and then an M.S.Ed along with a Sixth-Year Certificate in School Leadership at The College of Staten Island. Prior to his arrival at his current school he served as an Assistant Principal in District 15 prior to serving as Dean and Social Studies Teacher in District 20.
