Lena Scarborough Gates

Lena Scarborough Gates is currently the Principal of the Dr. Ronald E. McNair/P.S. 5 located in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, New York. Prior to the principalship at the Dr. Ronald E. McNair school, she served as an assistant principal in the same school, early childhood coordinator, staff developer, and Community School Coordinator of Crispus Attucks/C.S. 21. She founded Caring Educators in Action, a community-based organization, which provides professional educational support to teachers. She is also a member of the Adelaide Sanford Institute, which serves as a clearinghouse for best practices as they relate to the holistic education of students of African descent, providing a collegial framework for the sharing of culturally responsive and exemplary pedagogy programs and schools that have produced high academic achievement among students of color. Lena Scarborough Gates continues to serve as a member of the TEPAC educational committee, Medgar Evers College, City University of New York.
