Background

Laura Kump has served as an educator in the New York City Department of Education since September 1997. Throughout her tenure, she has served as a classroom teacher, Literacy Coach and for the past nine years, as the Principal of P.S. 26. Laura was named the 2003 Woman in History and twice received Teacher of the Year.  Laura has a strong passion and commitment to ensure that all children have access to a high quality education. She is committed to equity and ensures that every student has access, opportunities, and voice so that they are empowered to make an impact on this world. She advocates for her school community and has implemented strong social-emotional responsive practices, including Mindfulness, in combination with rigorous instruction. Laura received her Master of Science in Education from St. John’s University and is Nationally Board certified.
