Background

Dr. Keisha McCoy-Dailey is the Principal of The Sid Miller Academy (396K), a District 75 school located in Brownsville, Brooklyn. She is also a professor at a local CUNY college. Since stepping into the role of Principal, she has increased enrollment from 200 to 600 students and expanded the school from three offsite locations to six, all serving students with disabilities.

Dr. McCoy-Dailey has developed numerous programs at her school, including a multi-skilled, station-based instructional approach, a full language program for English Learners/Multilingual Learners, and a performing arts program that includes visual and theater arts. Additionally, The Sid Miller Academy boasts a dynamic vocational program designed to prepare students for college and career readiness, supporting their journey toward financial security and productive membership in society.

Through her leadership, student success and performance on unit assessments have improved significantly, with mastery levels rising from 40% to over 70%. Parental and community engagement in programs, town hall meetings, and school events have also seen a dramatic increase, growing from 5% to more than 65% of parents taking an active role in their child’s education.

Dr. McCoy-Dailey consistently lives up to her mission of “SOARing to Greater Heights.” Her dedication to the students and staff is evident in the bright smiles visible on their faces as you walk through the buildings of Sid Miller Academy and in their passion for the work they do. As she states, “We are here for the students, and we must provide quality instruction to ALL students!” This is a true reflection of her commitment to ensuring that every member of the school community truly SOARs.
