Background

Jumel Carlos has over 20 years of experience in education. He began his educational career as a Language Arts and History teacher in the New York City Department of Education. He holds a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from City College of New York, and obtained his Administrative Certification from the College of St. Rose. Jumel became an Assistant Principal of Frederick Douglass Academy III in 2010. He sought to identify and expand enrichment opportunities that resulted in the enhancement of student learning that gained access in the area of technology and student mentoring. Under Jumel’s leadership the school was successfully awarded various grants including: CODE: The Exploring Computer Science Program, Expanded Success Initiative for Black and Latino young men and “Start It” Internal Mentoring Program. Jumel is a Fellow of the, “FHI 360 Assistant Principal” program and alumni of the Teacher Leadership program. Jumel is currently the Principal for Frederick Douglass Academy III in the Bronx, NY and is an active member of the Council of Supervisors Association.
