Latina M. Tention

Latina M. Tention is an educator with over 20 years of experience, devoted to uplifting others through education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Community Health and Human Services from St. Joseph’s College, a Master’s in Education from Queens College, and an advanced degree in School Administration from Long Island University. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at Russell Sage College.
Latina began her career in education as a New York City Teaching Fellow. She has taught 3rd, 5th, and 6th grades, teaching 6th-grade math. Her commitment to education led her to serve as a Math Coach before advancing to roles as an Assistant Principal and then a Principal.
Latina believes that education saved her life, and she is proud of the leaders she has mentored, the teachers she has inspired, and the families she has impacted. She believes that students should be equipped to create and seize their own opportunities rather than passively accepting what comes their way. Latina continues to strive for excellence, aiming to make a lasting impact on students, staff, and families.
