Heather Leykam

Background

Heather Leykam serves as the Principal of P53K, a District 75 public school located in Brooklyn, New York. She has also served as a Cahn Fellow with Teachers College in Columbia University in 2013.

In addition to Heather’s work as a school leader, she currently is enrolled in Russell Sage’s Doctor of Education program, where she is researching and examining current educational issues. Heather is working with public school leaders, higher education leaders and those with statewide responsibilities in educationally related organizations.

Additionally, as a PSIA Level 1 Adaptive Ski Instructor, Heather also teaches students who are multiply physically and cognitively handicapped to develop their skills and provide instruction for both East and West Coast Skiers.

Heather has also earned an M.A. in School District Leadership from Mercy College as well as an M.A. from Touro College, in Education and Special Education. She also has a dual bachelor’s degree in Education, as well as Speech and Theater from Wagner College.
