Dennis M. Robbins receives $10,000 grant from American Astronomical Society (AAS)
Dennis M. Robbins (Curriculum and Teaching) received a $10,000 grant from the American Astronomical Society (AAS) to teach Ph.D. astrophysicists how to teach science. The grant supported a 4-day workshop at a national meeting of the AAS held in early January, 2019 in Seattle, Washington. Robbins developed a curriculum called “Science Thought and Practices” (STP) and facilitated in-depth workshops on teaching the curriculum. STP uses hands-on and minds-on learning methods enabled by digital technology by way of the use of real-time data collection sensors interfaced to laptop computers. These workshops were popular and were attended by representatives from NASA. This was a collaboration between Hunter College and American Museum of Natural History.
