Current Student Gabriela Garcia De La Noceda receives 2025 Big Apple Award

This week, New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) announced the winners of the 2025 Big Apple Awards for their exceptional work in schools. They were nominated by City students, families, teachers, administrators, and community members for empowering and advocating for their students and enriching their school communities. Together, they represent all five boroughs and teach a range of subject areas and grade levels.

Hunter College congratulates Gabriela Garcia De La Noceda, a current student in the School of Education working on her advanced certificate in Special Education. She is is known for using her personal experiences to shape her teaching style. As a bilingual Special Education ICT educator in P.S. 243, she celebrates diversity, language inclusivity, and honors every student’s identity. She creates a safe, supportive learning environment with strong routines and structures. A music enthusiast, she also weaves songs into her lessons and leads an after-school guitar program, which serves as a creative outlet and a tool for connection and engagement with students.
