Harlem Empowerment Project (HEP) is seeking part-time instructors for several Adult English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. The ideal candidates for these positions are college graduates with experience teaching adults who may have limited formal education.
Responsibilities
- Teach and manage in-person mixed-level Adult English as a Second Language classes
- Create lesson plans and activities for students of varying abilities and needs
- Keep accurate and detailed records on attendance, and student progress
- Communicate effectively with other members of the Harlem Empowerment Project team on student progress
- Participate in community outreach and student recruitment efforts as needed
- Participate in team planning sessions and other meetings
Qualifications
- College graduate with Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) training qualification
- Minimum two years of teaching experience preferred
- Experience teaching adults with limited education
- Experience working with at-risk adult populations
- Experience working in a New York City public school environment
- Strong organization and communication skills
Schedule
- Part-time, various times (mainly weekday mornings and afternoons)
Location
- Various locations; mainly East Harlem and the Bronx
Start Date
- January 9, 2023
Salary
- $55 per teaching hour plus time for prep; up to 18 hours per week.
