The Art of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL): Creativity and Connection – Exploring the Intersection of Arts and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Professional Learning Day

Thu, Mar 7 8:00am-2:30pm

In partnership with New York City Public Schools Office of Safety and Youth Development and Office of Arts and Special Projects, the Hunter College Collaborative for Social Emotional Learning and Leading (C-SELL) invites you to join us during Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Week for virtual and in-person events. Our theme this year is The Art of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL): Creativity and Connection. Workshops are interactive experiences designed to nurture the well-being of educators using art integration and mindfulness strategies. Attendees will be empowered to build belonging in their school communities.

Join us on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Hunter College for a full-day of professional learning exploring the intersection of arts and social emotional learning (SEL) through movement, storytelling, visual arts, and hip-hop music. Immerse yourself in interactive workshops led by presenters from Awareness in Motion, We Do It For the Culture, and more. Through creative expression, our expert facilitators will activate personal healing practices for educators that include mindfulness, breathwork, and body awareness. Storytelling and visual arts will also be a medium to deepen self and social awareness. In the afternoon, attendees will engage in culturally responsive social emotional learning (SEL) rooted in the elements of hip-hop to foster the authentic connections needed to support young people in feeling seen, heard and valued. This event promises to be a holistic approach to social emotional learning.

Intended Audience

  • Specifically for: Educators and leaders in the arts, as well as social emotional learning (SEL) advocates who appreciate artistic expressions, regardless of experience
  • Open to: Anyone who tends to the wellbeing of young people in school settings (educators, clinicians, school/ district leaders, community service providers, faculty and staff in higher education, etc.)
