TESOL in Costa Rica Study Abroad Application Deadline

Immerse yourself in critical inquiry about English language teaching in settings outside the US. Participants will:

  • Delve into the opportunities and challenges in language teaching worldwide by directly experiencing teaching English as a foreign language and serving as a volunteer in English language teaching programs.
  • Have the opportunity to visit K-12 schools, private language institutions, and colleges of English language teacher preparation.
  • Engage with local English language teachers, professors who specialize in language teacher education, and public and private sector English language educators.

This course leads to 3 credits in graduate-level TESOL which can be used towards 30 + above and also provides 45 hours of CTLE on ELLs.

To participate in this study abroad course, please complete the application no later than midnight, January 15 2020.

Document 2.

Please submit a formal written personal statement that, in 500 words or less, outlines your background or interest in working with English learners, and explains how participation in this particular study abroad program will advance your personal, educational, and/or career goals.  Provide evidence of your capacity for travelling well with others and interest in and respect for other cultures.

Label as: 3_LASTNAME_FirstName_Transcript

Please submit an official or unofficial transcript of your highest education degree earned.

References

In addition, enter the name, title, workplace and email of two professional or education references.  If you have already worked or studied with Dr. Baecher, you only need one reference, so please just put her/his name and email in that field.

Interviews

After a successful review of your materials, you will be invited for a 20-minute Zoom (webconference) interview online at a mutually convenient time, to take place between January 20-25.

 

Timeline

FEBRUARY 15 2020:   You will be notified by February 15 about acceptance.

MARCH 15 2020:  If you are accepted, you will receive a link to provide a non-refundable $350 deposit payment to the Hunter College Education Abroad office no later than March 15.

APRIL 15 2020:  You will also need to submit a number of additional documents to the Hunter College Education Abroad Office. These documents and final payment of all program fees will be due April 15.  Remaining program fees will be $2471.

MAY 15 2020:  You will need to register via CUNY First and pay for the EDESL 703 course through the Hunter College bursar’s office.
