Workshop for School of Education Students on Fulbright Application

Wed, Jul 12 2023 5:00pm-6:00pm

Please join Dr. Jody Polleck, associate professor in literacy education, and Stephen Lassonde, Director of the Office of Prestigious Scholarships and Fellowships at Hunter, for an online workshop to help you with your Fulbright application.

What is a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Award?

Receiving a Fulbright is not only a widely-recognized professional distinction, it is often a life-changing experience. Fulbright Scholars are placed as teachers all over the world to supplement local English language instruction. English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) provide assistance to local English teachers and serve as U.S. cultural ambassadors.

The age, content, and academic levels differ by country and range from kindergarten to college. Travel funds are provided for English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) as are monetary stipends.

Why would I want a Fulbright?

The Fulbright…

  • Offers an opportunity for you to see the world and learn new perspectives, cultures, and languages;
  • Provides you with important instructional experiences in diverse classrooms, where you can learn and utilize culturally sustaining and responsive practices.

Who can apply?

Fulbright Award winners can be either undergraduate or graduate students. As School of Education students, you have an advantage in that you already come to the application process with so much knowledge of pedagogy! Fulbright Award winners can be teachers of any content or grade level; they can be for all current and future teachers from Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) to special education, from math to science, from early childhood to high school.

What will I learn at this session?

For this workshop, you should bring your Fulbright application. During this time, we will offer advice on each part of the application and you’ll have opportunities to get early feedback.
