Semester 1 – Fall

- SPEDE 768: Fostering Development in Young Children with Diverse Abilities: Historical, Political and Inclusive Perspectives (3 credits)
- SPEDE 769: Evaluation, Assessment, and Program Planning for Infants and Young Children with Special Needs (3 credits; Pre or Co-requisite: SPEDE 768)
- SPED 792: Language Development and Alternative Communication Systems for Learners with Low Incidence Disabilities: Severe Disabilities including Deafblindness (3 credits)

- Students must submit their Reflecting on Growth no later than the second class session of SPEDE 770.
- Students must add their Individualized Assessment and Lesson Plan (Parts I, II, and III) and revised Philosophy Statement created in SPEDE 776.

Workshop
- Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Training – This workshop is a graduation requirement and can be completed at Hunter College or outside of Hunter College. Students who have already completed Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Training for a previous certification do not have to take it again.

Exams
- Content Specialty Test (CST) – Students with Disabilities. This exam is a certification requirement.
Portfolio
- Students must submit their final portfolio no later than 2 weeks prior to the end of the semester. This includes their revised Philosophy Statement created in SPEDE 778/920 and Culminating Reflection and Action Plan for Lifelong Learning. Failure to submit a complete portfolio by the due date can delay graduation until the next semester.

Certification
Students must apply for certification in their final semester. Refer to the Certification and Licensure page for requirements and step by step instructions.
Notes
- SPEDE 773 is a yearlong course. Students take 1.5 credits each semester.
- Students working full-time in a setting that meets the ECSE requirements to use as a Practicum site may choose to complete the following to assist in maintaining employment:
- Either SPEDE 77910 or SPEDE 77920 for 3 credits AND SPEDE 77900 for 2 credits during the regular academic (Fall/Spring) semesters in your worksite.
AND
- SPEDE 77800 is a 1 credit course offered in the summer session, that runs from July through August. This course is required for all students who will use their inclusive or special education OCE-approved worksite, for clinical courses (practicum). This course can be completed before, between, or after SPEDE 77910 OR SPEDE 77920/77900. The OCE will place you at a summer partner site to meet the age requirement not covered in SPEDE 776 and your worksite. You are required to actively participate in this setting 5 full days per week for the entire summer session.During this time, you will be expected to create and implement a supervised lesson that will be video-recorded.
- Either SPEDE 77910 or SPEDE 77920 for 3 credits AND SPEDE 77900 for 2 credits during the regular academic (Fall/Spring) semesters in your worksite.
