This is a two-and-a-half-year course sequence starting in the Spring for a May/August graduation only, since student teaching only starts in the fall. Only four credits can be waived.

Spring Semester 1

  • SPED 70000 – Issues and Practices in Educating Students with Disabilities (3 credits)
  • SPED 70000 is not an option Summer 2021, take Fall 2021
  • ECC 70300 – Early Childhood Curriculum: Birth through Grade 2 (3 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)
  • SPED 79200 – Language Development and Alternative Communication Systems for Learners with Low Incidence Disabilities: Severe Disabilities including Deafblindness (3 credits, includes fieldwork hours)

Fall Semester 1

  • SPED 79000 – Foundations and Educational Implications of Severe/Multiple Disabilities (3 credits)
  • SPED 79100 – Alternative Assessment for Learners with Low Incidence Disabilities: Visual Impairment, Deafblindness, and Severe Disabilities (3 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)
  • SPEDE 77200 – Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and Its Application to Young Children with Special Needs (3 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)

Winter Session 1

  • ECC 71200 – Pre-Student Teaching Field Placements in Early Childhood ((1 credit, 10 days in a school)
    • Application due prior semester
    • Can only be waived with 1 year general education employment
    • Offered Fall, Winter, Spring, NOT summer

  • SPED 70650 – Strategies and Curriculum Adaptations for Learners with Severe/Multiple Disabilities (3 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)
  • SPEDE 77000 – Individualized Planning, Implementation and Progress Monitoring in Early Childhood (Birth through PreK) Environments and Curricula (3 credits, includes Fieldwork Hours)
  • SPEDE 77300 – Families, Parenting, and Family-Professional Partnerships: Theories, Research, and Practices (1.5 credits – part 1, includes Fieldwork hours)

Exams

  • Content Specialty Test (CST) – Multisubject Early Childhood
    • Passing is required prior to beginning student teaching or practicum

  • SPEDE 79552 – Pre K, Practicum in Early Childhood Special Education with an Annotation in Severe Multiple Disabilities (2 credits; you find full employment with students with severe/ multiple disabilities)

  • SPEDE 77100 – Autism Spectrum Disorder: Characteristics and Implications for Intervention (3 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)
  • SPEDE 77400 – Adaptations for Individual Learners Across the K-2 Curriculum (3 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)

Student Teaching or Practicum (2 Semesters Required)

  • SPEDE 79550 – K-2, Student Teaching in Early Childhood Special Education with an Annotation in Severe Multiple Disabilities (2 credits; we place you for 3 days a week for 12 weeks)
