  • SPED 79100 – Alternative Assessment for Learners with Low Incidence Disabilities: Visual Impairment, Deafblindness, and Severe Disabilities (3 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)
  • SPED 78150 – Reading and Writing for Students with Learning Disabilities: Methods I (3 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)

Spring Semester 1

Courses

  • SPED 79200 – Language Development and Alternative Communication Systems for Learners with Low Incidence Disabilities: Severe Disabilities including Deafblindness (3 credits, includes fieldwork hours)
  • SPED 70650 – Strategies and Curriculum Adaptations for Learners with Severe/Multiple Disabilities (3 credits, includes Fieldwork Hours)
  • SPED 70250 – Classroom Management in Special Education and Inclusive Settings (3 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)

Exams

  • Content Specialty Test (CST) – Multisubject. (Grades 1-6)
    • Passing is required prior to beginning student teaching or practicum

Student Teaching or Practicum

  • SPED 79550 – Student Teaching: Severe/Multiple Disabilities Including Deafblindness, Grades 1–3 (2 credits; we place you for 3 days a week for 12 weeks)

Or

  • SPED 79552 – Supervised Practicum: Severe/Multiple Disabilities, Including Deafblindness, Grades 1–3 (2 credits; you find full employment with students with severe/ multiple disabilities)

Spring Semester 2

Courses

  • SPED 79300 – Total Communication for Learners with Severe/Multiple Disabilities (2 credits, includes Fieldwork hours)
  • SPED 78350 – Math, Organizational and Social Strategies for Students with Learning Disabilities (3 credits)

Student Teaching or Practicum (2 Semesters Required)

  • SPED 79551 – Student Teaching: Severe/Multiple Disabilities Including Deafblindness, Grades 4–6 (2 credits; we place you for 3 days a week for 12 weeks)

Or

  • SPED 79553 – Supervised Practicum: Severe/Multiple Disabilities, Including Deafblindness, Grades 4–6 (2 credits; you find full employment with students with severe/ multiple disabilities)

Apply for

Student Teaching/Supervised Practicum

Students must apply through the Office of Clinical Experiences (OCE) for clinical courses. Applications are sent out via email in mid-September for Winter session, mid-October for Spring semester and in mid-March for the Fall semester.
