This is a suggested full-time sequence for students who begin their program in Fall semester.

Semester 1 – Fall

Courses

  • BILED 70100 – Foundations of Bilingual Education (3 credits, includes fieldwork hours)
  • BILED 77900 – Multicultural Education (3 credits, includes fieldwork hours)
  • Required Clinical Experiences Course
    • must complete in opposite grade level of student teaching
  • And take one of the following courses:
    • BILED 71100 – Bilingual Literacy-Spanish (KC)
    • BILED 71200- Bilingual Literacy-French (KC)
    • BILED 71300 – Bilingual Literacy-Chinese (KC)

Winter Session

Courses

Elective 1

  • ECC 71500 – Educational Technology in Early Childhood (1 credit)
    • available in Winter and Summer

Semester 2 – Spring

Courses

  • BILED 77100 – Psychology of Language Learning and Teaching (2 credits, includes fieldwork hours)
  • ECC 70300 – Early Childhood Curriculum: Birth through Grade 2 (3 credits, includes fieldwork hours)
  • ECC 72000 – Integrative Seminar in Early Childhood Education (3 credits)
  • And take one of the following:
    • BILED 77800 – Instruction Through the Native Language-Spanish (3 credits, includes fieldwork)
    • BILED 76800 – Instruction Through the Native Language-French (3 credits, includes fieldwork)
    • BILED 76900 – Instruction Through the Native Language-Chinese (3 credits, includes fieldwork)

Academic and Professional Milestones

  • Students must apply for student teaching/practicum. Refer to the program page for full policies and procedures.

Summer Session

Courses

Elective 2

Take one of the following elective courses:

  • ECC 708 – Children with Special Needs: Birth through Grade 2 (3 credits)
  • ECC 713 – The Expressive Arts in Early Childhood (3 credits)
  • ECC 715 – Educational Technology in Early Childhood (1 credit)

Academic and Professional Milestones

Semester 3 – Fall

Courses

  • Students take either ECC 71650 – Student Teaching in Early Childhood Bilingual Settings (KC) (3 credits) or ECC 71750 – Supervised Practicum in EC in Early Childhood Bilingual Settings (KC) (1 credit) and ECC 71850 – Early Childhood Bilingual Student Teaching (KC) (1 credit)

Elective 3

Take one of the following elective courses:

  • ECC 70400 – Language and Literacy: Birth through Grade 2 (3 credits)
  • ECC 70800 – Children with Special Needs: Birth through Grade 2 (3 credits, includes fieldwork hours)
  • ECC 70900 – Mathematical and Scientific Thinking in Early Childhood (3 credits)
  • ECC 71300 – The Expressive Arts in Early Childhood (3 credits)
  • ECF 70200 – Assessment in Early Childhood Education: Birth through Grade 2 (3 credits)

Academic and Professional Milestones

  • Students apply for certification after degree has been conferred. You will receive an email once Hunter’s recommendation has been entered on your TEACH Account with the steps to apply. Refer to the Certification and Licensure page for more information.

Notes

All students in Track 3 must have a total of at least 30 credits completed at Hunter College School of Education during the Bilingual Early Childhood Education program.

The following Program Electives can be used to reach 30 credits (choose 7-13 credits):

  • ECC 70800 – Children with Special Needs: Birth through Grade 2 (3 credits, includes fieldwork hours)
