This is a recommended 2-Year Program Sequence for Fall 24 admits and beyond. Students can consult with their faculty advisor to create an individualized course sequence.

    • Students can substitute for BIOL 61055 one of the following American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) CUNY credit courses: Genetics, Genomics or Evolution, 3 credits; GBIO 620 Genetics, Genomics, Genethics, 3cr, GBIO 615 Ecology, 3cr, GBIO 625 Marine Biology 3cr, GBIO 610 Evolution 3cr or GBIO 630 The Brain 3cr

Academic and Professional Milestones

  • Students must apply for Clinical Block 1 using the Clinical Block 1 Application through the Office of Clinical Experiences for registration permission as well as placement for next semester. Registration permission and placement information will be sent to your myhunter.cuny.edu email address at least one week before registration opens. Students working full time as assistant, associate or head teachers may be eligible to complete Clinical Block 1 in their current job if it is aligned to their pending certification/area of study. Site must be pre-approved by faculty and/or Office of Clinical Experiences and students must submit documentation from worksite/school program director. The Application Deadline is April 1st for the Fall Semester and November 1st for the Spring Semester. All other students will be placed in a Hunter College School of Education partner site in New York City.

For students who have completed molecular biology and molecular genetics at the undergraduate level. Choose one:

  • Students must apply for Student Teaching or Supervised Teaching through the Office of Clinical Experiences for registration permission and placement for next semester. Students requiring placement in a Hunter College School of Education Partner site in New York City use the Student Teaching Application. For those students working full time as assistant, associate or head teachers in which their current job is aligned to their pending certification/area of study, use the Supervised Teaching Application and Supervised Teaching Site Approval Form. The Application Deadline is April 1st for the Fall Semester and November 1st for the Spring Semester. Registration permission and placement information will be sent to your myhunter.cuny.edu email address at least one week before registration opens.
  • Students must take and pass Content Specialty Test (CST) – Biology before applying for Student Teaching/Supervised Teaching.
  • Students must take and pass Educating All Students (EAS) Exam before applying for Student Teaching/Supervised Teaching.
  • Students must satisfy any outstanding Admission Conditions, if applicable.
  • Students must apply for graduation the semester before their planned graduation. Refer to the Graduation page for full policies and procedures.

  • Students must submit a professional teaching portfolio, which is a cumulative effort, integrating course and fieldwork throughout the program.
